The Atlas Afternoon Tea, Christmas Edition

An afternoon tea location is always a contentious subject in Singapore. There are SO many! Everyone has their favourite and hardly anyone in a group of four will agree on which one it is. The Atlas Afternoon Tea was something we had read about in Table Tale‘s Thursdays Curated email newsletter (well worth a sign up just to get these weekly hints). So when the time came for me and my favourite creatives to catch up, we decided it should be at Atlas. Besides its stunning Art Deco surrounds and sophisticated atmosphere, Atlas also has a lovely dining menu. Something that I hoped would translate to their afternoon teas.

I might also say that it was lovely to catch up with Mishell Leong and Amreen Rahman near the end of this year. These two gorgeous souls were some of the very first people I interviewed and are both inspirational to me, each in their own different ways. We met up to indulge in the Christmas Edition of the Atlas Afternoon Tea.

Afternoon tea at Atlas

Atlas doesn’t offer a mass produced afternoon tea where all the elements are made in bulk and left to sit til they grow stale. At Atlas, they make each item on the day. This means that you must book in advance before going. Be prepared to put in a little bit of effort when booking. There are forms to be signed and deposits to be taken when joining them with more than two people. Still despite this, we showed up yesterday afternoon and sunk into their velvet chairs and sofas eager to see what they would serve us.

They took our tea orders and each person was allowed one choice of tea in their own pot that was refilled with hot water when asked. The Atlas Selection is $52 and the Prestige Selection is $56, the main difference being your choice of teas. You can also add on a bit of sparkly to supplement and they are more than willing to cater to dietary requirements if you tell them in advance.

Christmas Edition

The Atlas afternoon tea is two tiers of decadence served on beautiful copper stands. On the bottom, savoury. On the top, sweet. Since this was the Christmas Edition, we had the cutest little snowmen, gingerbread men, log cakes, chocolates, madeleines and more. There was a bit of a wait before we were served. Our tea arrived and we sipped and chatted away as they made up our stands. Some items were made on the spot so the mini croque monsieurs were nice and melty and the duck and turkey pies, warm.

I love the sumptuous setting and the groovy music in the background. We spent a good two hours there laughing and talking and it was such a delightful way to spend a weekday afternoon. Because the seating is so roomy, you never felt crowded or hurried. Of course I wished that the items were refillable but as they make each element for each person on the day, I can understand why this would be hard for them to offer.

Two tiers of decadence

I thought the options for both savoury and sweet were lovely. They have an afternoon tea that is different to the normal sandwiches and scones with cream and jam. I don’t actually think there was cream or jam served but there might have been a mini scone. They even make a bit of a nod to the Art Deco era with a flute filled with something reminiscent of prawn cocktail. The elements are delightful, from Wagyu beef, crab cake and smoked salmon, delicately rolled and filled with something salty and creamy. Near the end, they stopped by with frozen treats for our table.

Our afternoon tea was utterly enjoyable. The gorgeous setting at Atlas was a perfect fit for the company I was keeping.

I believe my next visit to Atlas will be for dinner and drinks! Join me, Mishell and Amreen?

Merry Christmas to everyone!
