Neal’s Yard Remedies and Deliciously Ella Collaborate

With a fan base of close to a million, Ella Mills (Deliciously Ella) has inspired a generation of followers to choose a clean and healthy lifestyle through the food they eat. Suffering from a major illness (Postural Tachycardia Syndrome), she turned towards a healthy, whole food and plant based diet to help manage the symptoms of her disease. She started a blog in order to motivate herself to learn more and record what she was doing. Since then (and mind you, she is still in her 20’s) her story has taken the world by storm via Instagram and her Deliciously Ella blog. She is a darling of the wellness movement, speaking with heart and trying to make healthy eating easy for the people who follow her. From her has come a healthy eating revolution with cookbooks promoting and bringing her philosophy to the masses. Now as she has become her own brand, Deliciously Ella continues to grow and expand (with multiple publications and a cafe), she has teamed up with Neal’s Yard Remedies (NYR) to develop a line of products that reflects her philosophy.

What a fantastic way for the skincare brand Neal’s Yard Remedies and Deliciously Ella to collaborate, seeing as both are on the same mission. As we’ve read in Sunaina Patel’s story, we know that the progression from healthy eating to healthy skincare is one that follows naturally. Ella also spoke about this in her videos for NYR.

Now for my product review.

I’ve done alot of cafés and restaurants but this is probably my first review of an actual product. Funny enough, I love skincare and trying various potions and lotion. Unfortunately, when it comes to organic products, while I love, love, love the idea of going clean, I have always been put off a bit by the strong essential oil scents that most of them come with. I prefer lighter fragrances (or none at all). Still, I eagerly tested the little sample sachets of Deliciously Ella & NYR products that were given to me and this is what I found.

Rose, Lime & Cucumber Facial Wash
SG$46/100ml

Surprisingly the smell of cucumber comes through immediately. You would think that such a delicate scent would not be able to compete with the stronger ones of rose and lime. But cucumber was the first thing I smelt and the scent that lingered the longest. I really loved it, and that’s the truth. Yes, there is a strong smell of rose, lime and other essential oils but it was the cucumber that brought with it the light, clean fragrance. Such lightness also translates in the face wash that I enjoyed using. It was light and refreshing, not overwhelming or heavy, which I tend to find with organic based products. My face felt nice and clean afterwards and there was no stinging or dryness.

Rose, Lime & Cucumber Moisturiser
SG$62/100ml

The moisturiser, though a bit stronger in smell than the facial wash, was also light and refreshing. I could see myself using this daily. It sinks into the skin quite nicely and doesn’t feel oily or too sticky. I had wandered by the Neal’s Yard Remedies booth at Parkway Parade a week after attending the launch and had another bit of a try. Again, the fresh scent of cucumber works well and lingers on for quite a few hours. It was almost all I could do to resist buying a full size bottle then and there.
