The conversation
Angie: So I got a lot of mixed feedback on my write up of Blackwattle last year. I SO loved it and am rather upset it’s closing.
Karin: I know! It’s just a tough market here and perhaps Blackwattle wasn’t a right fit.
Angie: But I found the flavours so modern and something a bit different to the usual.
Karin: Was it? Maybe not. Perhaps a bit behind the times actually…
I had a convo w somebody about Blackwattle after he had been there and he said he was so frustrated that he didn’t understand a single item on the menu – which I thought was quite a funny comment… and then we got into the discussion of complicating or simplifying things! I think nowadays it’s very much back to basic and back to simple dishes with real ingredients rather than using fancy terms…
Angie: Oh but I loved it! It was food to talk about and think about. Like their gooseberries in dashi broth. I had never had anything like it.
Karin: Not everyone likes that sort of thing though… Taste is subjective.
