For a person who has a plethora of coffee gadgets and sometimes multiples of the same (for example, coffee drippers), I was totally surprised by my teenage daughter this year. She got, for my birthday, the Wacaco Minipresso, a sign that she actually does notice what I do around here. She is just the best! I had promised a Wacaco Minipresso review earlier, so here it is!
Wacaco Minipresso (Minipresso) Review
This little coffee brewer is a dream. If I were a camping person, it would be on the must-pack list for sure. It would also be on the list if I were going on holidays and staying at luxury hotels. One of those pursuits which I sadly haven’t been able to do in 2020.
The Minipresso’s tiny size means it can be taken where ever you want to go. It comes with a handy carry bag too. All you need, besides the Minipresso itself, is coffee (ground for espresso, usually a fine grind) and hot water.
Gadget lovers will enjoy how easily everything disassembles and goes back together. It just has four main parts (filter, top where the golden liquid comes out, pump unit and water holder). Plus the espresso cup and scoop. It also comes with a little brush to help with clean up and a handy carry bag. I am obsessed with its sleek design and easy mechanics.
It is super easy to use, just fill with coffee and water then pump away. Out pours a beautiful espresso complete with crema. I love this little gadget and would really love to take it on the road with me so I can properly put it through its paces.
So let’s get on to how to brew with the Minipresso.
What you will need:
- The Minipresso
- Hot water
- Coffee grounds, freshly ground if possible (I use a fine grind for this)
This is how you do it:
- Boil your water, grind your coffee and disassemble the Minipresso.
2. Fill the provided scoop with coffee grounds. I then use my finger to tamp it down a little bit so it’s smooth on top.
3. Invert the coffee filter piece over the scoop.
4. Next, invert the scoop and filter again so the scoop is upside down on the coffee filter.
5. Remove the scoop, ensuring all the coffee has transferred to the filter then place the coffee filter into the Minipresso. There are ridges in the Minipresso on the side that it sets into.
6. Screw in the top of the Minipresso over the coffee filter.
7. Fill the water container provided with hot water and carefully screw this onto the bottom of the Minipresso. Watch out for spills and don’t burn yourself!
7. Release the pump button. This happens with a simple twist.
8. Invert the Minipresso over the cup provided and pump away until the espresso comes out. Take a moment to relish the aroma!
I have to do this with two hands but I bet you could do it with one hand. If anyone has the hand strength to do this, please let me know. I’d also love hand strengthening exercise ideas.
As always, be sure and use the best, freshly roasted coffee beans you can find. Check out where I get The Best Coffee Beans in America.
In Singapore, this is, of course, through Perk Coffee. Use code VANILLABEIGE for 50% off your first subscription order. Full disclosure, I’ve worked with them for years on design and content but I am truly a fan regardless and I don’t get paid for these posts.

Oh, and as if this thing couldn’t get any smaller, Wacaco now has a Nanopresso. Crazy, right?! I must repeat to myself – “I don’t need it… I don’t need it…”
