Boxes & Things is all about little things, because little things matter. Read more about us in our interview here. In our first ever blog, we are going to talk about nothing… but one little thing. In particular, being eco-friendly in a little way, daily.
There are tons of little things we could do to conserve our scarce natural resources and preserve Mother Earth, but starting with one small thing is less daunting and can go a long way. As individual consumers, we may not feel like we cause the rapid deforestation that is taking place around the world, at least not directly. We can, however, choose to be responsible for what is happening by taking a stand. It does not take much effort.
The first little thing we would like to suggest is easy. Bring your own reusable coffee cup to your café for the barista to fill with your next take-away cup of coffee.
In case you didn’t know, take-away coffee cups are not exactly recyclable. In the United Kingdom, take-away coffee cups are not allowed in recycle bins. This is because the plastic lining in the cups requires highly specialised facility to strip it off, making the take-away coffee cups almost impossible to recycle. Each year, billions and billions of take-away coffee cups end up in landfills instead. Let’s not even mention the effect it has on the taste of your coffee and the reaction of hot coffee against the plastic lining.
Channel News Asia recently did a video on this very subject. Have a look (though we do think an even better option to styrofoam or paper would be to bring along your own reuseable cup).
So. Here is your choice, for your next cup of take-away coffee, you could choose between the disposable take-away cup or bring your own reusable coffee cup. If you decide on the latter, we recommend Onya Reusable Coffee Cups, available in four different colours at boxesnthings.com.

It’s the little things…
