I’m dying to go back and try their coffee and brunch, but on the evening that we went, we were there for dinner with friends (without all our kids in tow – hooray!). Being one of the restaurants in the Eat Singapore Book was also a bonus. (I’ve been to 3 now, 9 to go!)
While the name Luxe may give you the impression that it’s a fancy place, it really isn’t. Don’t get me wrong, it’s far from being daggy! It’s just one of those places that you can go for a good meal at any time, no heels needed. (And if you do want to dress up, you wouldn’t be totally out of place.)
Luxe feels like a modern-style bistro (serving contemporary Australian fare with some local flavours). The menu is full of all your familiar favourites like burgers, pasta, steaks and roast chicken. They also have great bar snacks and salads and a reasonable drinks menu.
From their bar snacks, we tried the Parmesan doughnuts. They were light and fluffy with crisp outside and served with a parmesan cream dip. Now, I like almost anything deep fried but these were great. Very parmesany and I wish I could have had a couple more. Unfortunately, I had to share…
Because I had just been on a burger binge (check out Carvers & Co), It took me quite a while to decide if I should try the burger. I mean, if I am on a quest to find THE best burger in Singapore, I really should try the burger, but at the last minute I decided on the Angus Sirloin with Cafe De Paris butter, served with fries. It was a good steak and I really enjoyed it, especially the butter. But I’m also the type of person who lives by the “everything is better with butter” principle.
I did have a touch of burger envy when I saw my friend chowing down on his burger which, at Luxe, comes in a squid ink bun and has a patty of grass fed beef and topped with cheese, pickles, lettuce and tomato.
Vego husband had the pasta casarecce with mushroom, buffalo mozzerella and sherry cream. He let me try a bit and OMG, I wanted to inhale the entire bowl. It was fantastic with mushroom and truffle overtones, not too much sherry and melting buffalo mozzarella on the top. I loved it (sorry about the blurry photo. It’s hard to get good shots in low lighting! Oh and I was probably shaking a bit because I was too busy trying to steal more pasta from hubby’s bowl).
On the side, we ordered their cauliflower and sunflower seeds and leafy green salad, both of which were exactly what was needed to go with my heavy main. I’m in love with cauliflower at the moment anyways so I really loved how they roasted it, topped it with sunflower seeds for crunch and drizzled it with their tangy dressing.
We were entirely too full for dessert!
